Which Canadian provinces recognize this certification?
Our certification is designed to align with the core standards expected across Canada. While specific recognition varies by provincial human rights legislation, our documentation provides a professional record of your dog's training and standards to support public access.
Does each province have different service dog rules?
Yes, service dog regulations are governed at the provincial level. Provinces like British Columbia and Alberta have official government testing, while others rely on Human Rights Codes ensuring access for task-trained dogs with medical supporting letters.
Is online service dog certification valid in Canada?
Online registration provides identification and registry for handlers, but it does not legalise a pet. A service dog must be task-trained and the handler must possess a medical letter from a healthcare provider to be legally valid under Canadian law.
Can my service dog ever be refused entry in public places?
Legally no, if the dog is behaving correctly and providing a service. However, if a dog is disruptive, poses a health and safety risk, or is not under control, a business may have grounds to ask the handler to remove the animal.
Do airlines and landlords have to accept my service dog?
Yes. Under the CTA (for airlines) and provincial housing laws, service dogs are not considered pets. Landlords and airlines must make reasonable accommodations without charging extra 'pet fees,' provided the dog is a legitimate service animal.
How do I prove identity in different provinces?
Handlers often use a combination of identification cards, vests, and their medical travel letters. While a vest is not always legally required, it serves as a visual indicator that drastically reduces public confrontation.
